Betty Thieme – Spring 2010 Update Betty Thieme is graciously cared for at home around the clock. Because of her short-term memory lapses, she does not remember that the Colonel is face-to-face, but when reminded, she often says, “I can’t believe Bob is gone.” April 19th is Betty’s 92nd birthday. She has flawless skin; her hairdresser and manicurist visit once a week. Her appetite is good and she enjoys home cooked meals. When she is up to it, Betty attends church on Sunday. As the weather improves, she will enjoy lunching and napping on the patio under the shade of the trees with Grandpa cat by her side. Even though Betty is not ambulatory, state-of-the-art equipment enables her to be comfortable and without pain whether in bed, in her recliner or in her custom wheelchair. A home health care nurse visits at least once a week; and a physical massage therapist visits twice weekly. The massage therapy stimulates circulation, increases range of motion, and helps prevent contractures. Betty recognizes family and familiar faces. She responds to simple conversation–sometimes in a humorous way and will often sing along when she hears a favorite hymn. She is especially talkative early in the morning but by mid-morning her eyes are closed and she is napping. She sleeps peacefully through the night. Betty appreciates your continued prayers and kindnesses on her behalf, and your heart felt expressions of love and remembrances for the Colonel’s promotion. She continues to be blessed by association and the legacy he has left us–Bible doctrine, the infallible Word of God.
